Cervical Screening

Screening can pick up cell changes and, if needed, these changes can be treated to prevent a cancer developing.
Cervical Screening Wales is responsible for the NHS cervical screening programme in Wales, including sending invitations.  Ensure your contact details are correct with your GP so that you can be contacted.

Breast Screening

Breast Screening looks for breast cancer before symptoms become apparent.  A mammogram will be performed which is effectively, an x-ray of the breast.

Finding breast cancer early gives the patient the best chance of successful treatment and survival.

Menopause

Menopause is when your periods stop due to lower hormone levels.  This usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55.  It can also happen earlier for many reasons such as a hysterectomy, oophorectomy, chemotherapy or a genetic reason.  Menopause can cause a wide range of symptoms such as anxiety, brain fog, hot flushes and irregular periods among others.  There are things that you can do to help relieve some of these symptoms.

Gentiourinary Symptoms

During the menopause genitourinary symptoms are apparent due to a drop in oestrogen levels.  Vaginal dryness, bladder control issues, frequent urinary tract infections

Contraception

With over 15 types of contraception available it is important that you choose the method that is right for you.

Condoms are a type of barrier protection that helps to protect against both pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Try different methods until you find the one that is right for you.

Pelvic Floor Health

Pelvic floor exercises strengthen the muscles around the bladder, bottom, and vagina or penis.  Strengthening these muscles helps to prevent urinary incontinence and makes sex better too.

STI

There are an array of symptoms of a sexually transmitted disease from pain when peeing to warts around your mouth, anus, throat or genitals.  If you suspect you may have a STI contact your sexual health clinic.

Lifestyle Advice

Eating well, exercising frequently and taking care of your mental wellbeing can help to alleviate symptoms of menopause or peri menopause.

Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone.  There are different types of abuse however they all include having power and control over you. If you feel you are being emotionally abused, threatened or intimidated, physically or sexually abused help is available.

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

Do 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic weekly.

Do strength training at least twice a week.

Try balance exercises a few minutes a day.
