Occupational Therapy in the CRT

Occupational Therapy

The Occupational therapy team based in the CRT is an integrated team consisting of staff employed by both Health and Social care.    Together with community referrals we cover the residential re-ablement beds.  We extend our reach into acute and community hospitals and provide community rehab programs for clients who have experienced a stroke.

Occupational Therapy as defined by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists  ” is a profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through engagement in occupation.”

Occupation can also be defined as a “Purposeful activity”. When health is compromised or disrupted, selected occupations can be an effective way to regain function and increase their level of independence. Occupational therapists carry out a functional assessment and assess through observation and activity analysis. Occupational therapists use careful analysis of physical, environmental, psychosocial, mental, spiritual, political and cultural factors to identify barriers to occupation.
